A Home for Gathering

The Details

The first time my husband and I visited the Gather in Bloom house, we fell silent. There were no words to describe the calm and tranquil atmosphere, and we left knowing that we were meant to be her next caretakers. The home was built in 1900, and well-loved for the 120 years prior to our stewardship. She has been updated, reconfigured, and extended throughout the years, but still maintains character with her wavy floors and plaster walls. The porch views are stunning, and quintessentially Southern. Magnolia trees surround the property (19 to be exact), and crepe myrtles line the drive, meant to ultimately create a natural archway.

The Gathering Opportunity

Most importantly, the home has given us a place for gathering. People and laughter are meant to fill the rooms. We have space for outdoor entertaining and can utilize our porch for seating. The dining room fits everyone around the table for holidays and celebrations. There are multiple conversation corners, and a kitchen with entertaining-specific appliances (warmers, drawer refrigerators, prepping station, separate ice machine).

Front of House

The Gather in Bloom house has just enough gingerbread and angles to call it Victorian without adding a farmhouse classification. Additionally, it shares elements of Greek Revival with the columns and masonry. The 12-foot ceiling height allows for more people and airflow without feeling claustrophobic. The porch and trees surrounding the house block most direct sunlight, which is brilliant for temperature control. The design of the porch was intentional for this purpose, as well as the tall windows and transoms throughout the house. The only things not benefiting from direct sun are the house plants.

In light of the house’s age, maintenance and upkeep are a new world. Yet, any home needs the standard maintenance required, regardless of age. However, fountain maintenance and never-ending tree shaping are most certainly unique for us!

We will undoubtedly attempt to host numerous additional events for friends, family, and neighbors. We will also share events with all of you. Happy gathering!
