The crew got together this year in Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston has been on our list for a few years for a girls’ weekend, and we were finally able to make it happen. Leisurely, indulgent dinners and drinks are a requirement for our gatherings, as well as opportunities to listen to music from a variety of genres (a first-generation iPod is our musical time capsule). We also enjoy walking, shopping, and coffee. I was able to sneak in a brief museum visit, but don’t tell anyone!
Welcome Gifts
I wanted to give everyone something fun to commemorate our trip, but I needed it to be useful and not too large so everyone could fit it in their carry-ons. I found these mugs with lids and straws on Etsy and was able to get them personalized. We used our cups all weekend while we were in our apartment. Inside the cups, I had fuzzy socks, under-eye pads, nail files, face mask, and Tylenol. Note to self: include more Tylenol next time!
Stay in Charleston
For our Charleston girls’ weekend, we rented an Airbnb located on Cannon Street. We were only a few blocks from restaurants and bars on King Street, but that slight distance gave us some much-needed peace and quiet. Before arriving, we go to the store to pick up provisions. This year, Jackie gathered together a lovely charcuterie board with some of the items we procured.
Eats and Drinks in Charleston
Charleston Girls’ Weekend highlights (these were the standouts):
- Prohibition: had it all – food, drink, and atmosphere
- Maya: tacos and ambiance!
- Church & Union: we had drinks and avoided rain while attempting to read the ceiling.
- Slightly North of Broad: perfect spot for lunch.
- Fleet Landing: coastal fare and yacht rock tunes.
- Sugar Bakeshop: the cutest and sweetest bakery.
Sights
We made it through the Charleston City Market a couple of times and found the pineapple fountain. I did manage to make it to the Charleston Museum as well. Charleston was an ideal destination to merely be surrounded by the history of the city without feeling the pressure to be the tourist. We all had a happy gathering!
